The GTUK wishes you a very happy Christmas

To all Students, Instructors and friends of the GTUK around the world.

On behalf of GMO and the GTUK Executive board we wish you a very happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year.

The pandemic caused so many problems for everyone and the GTUK has suffered, but we have made some great progress in getting back to normality.

Thank you to all students and their families for supporting the GTUK Invitational Championships back in October, the first big event after restrictions were lifted.

Then a massive and well earned congratulations to those students that took both National and International Degree tests at the Blackbelt grading, such a great standard after a long break in training for many of you.

We look back and congratulate the Instructors and Students that have worked hard rebuilding the Association.

We still have some work to do in 2021, Good luck to all students taking tests in the next two weeks.

Finally, we eagerly look towards 2022, the continued growth, more events and seeing you all again.

Best wishes for the festive season and a very happy New Year. 🎄🎅🏼🎁

British Open ITF Taekwondo Championships 2021

British Open ITF Taekwondo Championships 2021

A small but determined contingent of Bungay Taekwondo Club students travelled to Coventry at the weekend to compete in the first National taekwondo competition since the pandemic struck and they represented the East of England superbly. The competition is divided into 3 sections, patterns in which students have to perform set series of moves as best as possible, sparring where students compete in semi contact fighting to score the most points (3 for a kick to the head, 2 for a kick to the body and 1 for a punch to head or body) and special techniques in which students either perform the highest flying kick or break the most amount of wood.

Jayden Howgate (aged 12) fought hard to win silver medals for both sparring and patterns in the junior black belt division, whilst Evie Mortimer (aged 13) won a silver in the junior green belt to red tag patterns.  Lewis Howes (aged 16) gained a bronze in the junior white to green belt patterns.  Jonty Gillet (aged 8) competed really well and won several bouts in his huge white belt to green belt pee wee division but unfortunately missed out on the medals.

Club instructor Clinton Gillett (aged 49) won gold for patterns and silver for sparring in the Veteran senior black belt males to round off a long but successful day.   Jade Howgate helped referee throughout and said the standard of competition was excellent with everyone trying their hardest in every round.

The club is thriving at the moment but always welcomes new recruits to train in this Olympic martial art on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7pm in the Sports Hall at Bungay High School, please see the club website for details.

Training returns!

Taekwon-do Training returns

We are once again in a position to commence training for students providing we stick to specific regulations as set out by Sport England and The British Taekwondo Council.

Sports Hall at Bungay High School on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-8pm

We are going to train in the school Sports Hall/Gym but there will be no access to changing facilities so students are asked to come ready to train and enough drink to sustain them through the lesson.  We are only allowed to do techniques and patterns until further restrictions are lifted (Hopefully 21st June)

Students can be dropped off by the Sports Hall and parents are asked to stay in their cars. (A 2 metre social distance is to be maintained throughout the whole time from drop off through the lesson and into collection please.)

All students must hold current BTC insurance so I will be asking anyone whose has expired to renew as soon as we start training with the payment of £30 made online if possible (3 additional months are being added on to any renewals due to lockdown).  Cheques can be paid if this is not possible.

The lessons will be £3 per lesson and they will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-8pm. It would be good if payments can be made online if possible (if not it can be paid in cash into the bag which will be left in quarantine for 48 hours)

If you are able to come along and train then please text me on 07970664965 or email [email protected] so you can be booked in as we have a maximum capacity of 30 students at any one time.

The full risk assessment document can be seen on request and please feel free to email me any questions or concerns.  Could I request that you complete the attached form and bring it with you on the 1st session to ensure we have up to date contact information and so we know you are all OK with the regulations.

Yours sincerely

Clinton Gillett (V Degree)
