There are 5 super proud students from Bungay Taekwondo Club who have achieved their black belts after 3-4 years of training with Clinton Gillett (5th Dan) Jed Baddour, Isaac Slater and Amber Swanston were the 1st to get their belts as Pee wees, followed by 13 year old Bailey Aldrich in the junior section.  Jade Howgate aged 36 rounded off a superb day in the adult section.  The exam was taken in front of various panels of senior instructors from the GTUL including Grand Master Oldham and Master Auciello so it is a nerve wracking experience.  Jacob and Benjamin Burden also achieved their star 2 certificates on their way to becoming 2nd Dan black Belts.

Grand Master Oldham and the Tournament Committee are honoured to invite and welcome you to our GTUK 2018 Individual Championships. We are working hard to ensure that our tournaments are a memorable and enjoyable experience for both competitors and their families, bringing together members of the GTUK, young and old from all of our regions of the UK.

We would like to thank you and your competitor(s) for the continued support at the GTUK championships.

This championship is open to students of all ages and levels of Taekwon-Do, giving each and every student the opportunity to take part in competitive patterns, sparring and where age appropriate destruction. All students are placed into categories according to their age and belts to give everyone a fair chance to compete to become GTUK National Champions.

The venue has free parking and there will also be the opportunity to purchase photographs and refreshments on the day.

Spectators pay on the day.

Entry Fees: Adults £20, Juniors £15,

Spectators £5 – under 11s free when accompanied by a paying adult.

Successful Autumn Belt Grading 7th October 2018

CONGRATULATIONS to all the martial arts students from the Beccles and Bungay Taekwondo clubs who passed their Autumn Belt Grading.

The examination was held at Bungay High School on 7th October 2018

GTUK Regional examiner Mr Steve King 6th Dan from Wellingborough was very pleased with the standards displayed by the students on the day, he congratulated them on their work and commitment to their training, and they were rewarded with an excellent 100% pass rate!

The 3 hour examination includes demonstrations of techniques including kicks, punches, blocks, patterns (sequences of moves), sparring, self-defence, power destruction and Korean terminology for the techniques in their individual belt grade syllabuses.

The clubs are run independently but both are affiliated to the same Taekwon-do association the GTUK, and teach the original ITF style of Taekwondo. The clubs are very family orientated, with many parents training with their children. The youngest students are 5 years old and there is no upper age limit.

The Beccles club is run by its fully certified Black belt instructors: Mr and Mrs Bedingfield, who are well supported by their team of Black belt and Black-tag students. Classes are held on Mondays and Thursdays 7-8.30pm at the Venue, Beccles Sports Centre.

The Bungay club is run by Mr Clinton Gillett 5th Degree, who is supported by his Black belt and Black-tag students, classes are held on Tuesdays 7-8pm and Thursdays 7-8.30pm at Bungay High School, with a special class for school students on Wednesdays 4-5pm.

Congratulations to all Bungay & Beccles Taekwondo students on their well deserved 100% pass rate for the summer belt grading.

British GTUK Taekwondo Championships 2018

Twenty four competitors from Beccles and Bungay Taekwondo Clubs made the 160 mile journey to Coventry at the weekend to compete in this year’s GTUK British Championships and came back with an astonishing 27 medals which illustrates the high standard of taekwondo in the East of England!

Bungay student success included a fantastic patterns gold and silver sparring in the adult female 7th-1stkup for Jade Howgate, whilst Daisy Whymark gained gold for sparring and silver patterns in the junior girls 7th-1stkup division.  Gordon Perkis won a great gold in the adult male 10th-3rdkup sparring and his son Joshua won silver for patterns in the pee wee section.  Frankie Howells battled to a silver in patterns and bronze sparring at junior male 10th-6thkup whilst team mate Malichi Fabian gained double bronze for his junior age category.  Jayden Howgate also achieved double bronze in the black belt pee wee section.  Jed Baddour won a patterns silver in the older pee wee 7th-1stkups and Isaac Slater won a silver for sparring in the younger category.  Brothers Christian (junior black belt) and Liam Everett (adult 7th-1stkup lightweight) both won bronze medals in their respective divisions whilst Toyota Smith also picked up sparring bronze in the adult ladies 6th-1stkups.  Ewan Lutz achieved a bronze medal in the junior male 7th-1stkups but Lewis Flatt, Benjamin Burden, Colby and Bailey Aldrich all missed out on medals despite great determination and grit.

Beccles student success included a fantastic gold for Liam Mills in the junior black belt patterns and silver for sparring, whilst Jason Drake gained double silver in the adult veteran black belts.  Barbara Mazza claimed a silver for sparring in the ladies veteran black belt section and Paul Chapman achieved silver for sparring and bronze for patterns in the 7th-1stKup males. Glen Thomson achieved a bronze for the 4th-6thkup male patterns but Tyler and Blake Goffin narrowly missed out on the medals in their respective junior and pee wee categories but they competed superbly.

The clubs can now focus on getting ready for the next grading of the year and It is still possible to start training with Clinton Gillett at Bungay who is a 5thDegree international instructor, world silver medallist from 2000 and current UITF veteran champion or for Beccles 2nd& 3rdDegree Sue and Nidge Bedingfield who have a whole host of national and regional titles. Details can be found on the club websites and welcomes students of all abilities from the age of 6 to 60 and beyond or pop along for a free taster lesson.

British Championships | Summer Grading

The next big competition is the GTUK British Championships in Coventry Saturday 12th May, it would be great to get as many along as possible and as always I will be driving the minibus. You have to pre-register for this one so I will start collecting information in the month before hand.

The summer grading will take place on Sunday 24th June from 10-1 and we have been invited to do a demonstration at Earsham Village Fete on Saturday 23rd June and volunteers are most welcome.
