Championship report

11 combatants and 7 supporters had a superb day at the GTUL Championships winning a total of 11 medals in a busy and productive day.

Joseph Miller took a superb gold in the pee wee special techniques with twin brother Henry coming 2nd (Henry also came 4th in the sparring after winning 3 fights!) Oscar Glaysher won silver for sparring and patterns in the Dragon white to green belts whilst Ali Gowing took  a silver for patterns and a bronze for sparring in the higher grade dragons.

James Gowing won bronze in the pee wee green tag-blue tag sparring.  Bronwen Back won a superb gold in the junior girls patterns and then a bronze in the sparring.  Christian Everett took a great bronze in his 1st adult black belt sparring competition whilst Clinton Gillett took gold for patterns and silver for sparring the veteran mens 3rd degree plus category.

The club is immensely proud of Jonty Gillett, Kelsie Dyer and Gavin White who competed bravely but did not quite reach the podium.  Special mention has to go to Megan Gowing who came along to support the club and was asked to step in as a welfare officer due to her qualifications, she worked all day to support the younger students really well.

Parents supported with great enthusiasm and made the day very special.  Many thanks to all and looking forward to the next grading on Thursday 15th December at 6.30pm.

News from Gradings and OITF Competition

New Bungay Black Belt

Well done to James Thurston on getting his 1st Dan Black Belt on Saturday in Coventry in front of Grandmaster Oldham.

Colour Belts

Well done to everyone who took their grading on Sunday, Master King praised the enthusiasm and effort put in especially with sparring.  This Autumn grading is only small following the summer holiday so congratulations to all students who worked hard to get ready.  The next grading will be on Thursday 15th December at 6pm.

OITF Report

9 competitors and 4 parents made the early morning journey to the Open ITF tournament and came away with 5 medals and a great deal of pride.  Ali Gowing gained superb silver medals in the pee wees, with Bronwen Back gaining a silver for sparring and a bronze for patterns in the junior girls with Henry Rush gaining a bronze in the adult males.

Oscar Glaysher, James Gowing, Jonty Gillett, James Thurston, Alex Goff and Christian Everett all competed superbly in huge devisions with some quarter final positions but unfortunately no medals.  After a very long day of solid refereeing Clinton Gillett had to withdraw and not compete so he could get everyone home safely.

We are very proud of everyone as this was a huge competition with 25 different associations and several different countries competing.
